Man arrested in Ekiti with fake new naira notes worth N100,000
According to the commander of the state corps, Brigadier General Joe Komolafe (retd), while parading the suspect at the corps headquarters in Ado-Ekiti today (21/02/2023); he claimed he was arrested along Omuo-Ekiti of Ekiti East LGA in the state.
The arrest was said to have been made following an alarm raised by a POS (Point of Scale) operator who discovered the fake denominations.
Our men were reliably informed that the suspect came into the community with about Two Hundred and Fifty Thousand (N250,000) fake new One Thousand (N1,000) notes. He is currently undergoing interrogations at our office here. He will be handed over to the police for further probe and prosecution on completion of our investigation on this matter. The Commander said.
Speaking further, the commander said the suspect claimed to be in trade of buying Kola and Bitter Kola and that he was also paid with cash in Lagos before moving to a local area in Omuo.
On interrogation, he confessed to the crime and said he was given Two Hundred and Fifty Thousand from a factory in Lagos, but we found One Hundred Thousand Naira with him as he had spent N150,000 in the area
The commander however advised people to beware of such activities, as unscrupulous persons may want to use the opportunity of the scarcity of new naira notes to dupe members of the public.
